Somerset Wildlands is building up wild stepping stones throughout the landscape.

This is our list of ‘wild stepping stones’. Right now we have about 105 acres of land under rewilding across four sites, of which 85 acres are owned directly by the charity, with more to come in future. Each location is slightly different in how it is operated and managed, but the principle of allowing nature to take the lead, and being as ‘hands-off’ as possible, is the same.

In time each piece of land will develop differently, and help create something new in the landscape, adding to the existing mix of carefully managed nature reserves and farmland beyond.

It is our intention that our sites will as open as possible - while allowing the needs of nature to come first. We do not create ‘destination reserves’ and keep infrastructure to a minimum. There will be no car parks or visitor centres, just space for nature.

The locations are shown on the map at the bottom of this page.

You can find the location of all our land on the map below (see highlighted areas - you may need to zoom in near the towns of Glastonbury or Athelney).
